The proposed installation seeks to retell the stories of Lorcha Macau, a timber vessel built at the same location in the 1980s by the Macau Marine Bureau and local shipwrights. Lorcha Macau served as a training boat and sailed extensively across Asia prior to its ocean-crossing expedition to represent Macau at the EXPO' 98 in Lisbon.
Resembling waves in connection with the surrounding water, the installation comprises arrays of canopy made of mesh fabric draping across the site at varying heights. The drapes rock gently in the wind and in response to the motion of the seats at the base of some of the support poles. Beneath the canopy is an open room carpeted in a constellation of light and shadow, inviting viewers to explore the space below and above the water, discover their own niche and imagine a world beyond the site - the voyages of Lorcha Macau which began from this very place of Lai Chi Wan.
